Overview

Di Mac Cooking Coach is the first in a series of highly visual cookbooks designed to build confidence and get the novice cook started in the kitchen. It will equally delight established cooks with new twists on old classics.

This highly visual cookbook, with over 400 informative color photos, does not leave you stranded wondering what to do. Instead, it guides you step by step through every recipe in its various stages of preparation, including what the final dish should look like. What you see is what you get.

This first book launches the series with the glamour end of cooking, Sweet Pleasures (classic desserts and cakes). It includes a quirky mix of classic cakes and desserts, for example a classic Lime Tart and a Baked Rice Pudding, together with some new surprises e.g. the impressive Chocolate Mousse Spongecake (featured on the cover) and the fabulous, show off Cherry Stacks. All recipes are written in everyday language and any fancy cooking terminology that does creep in is explained, or demonstrated in pictorial form.

This book is divided into three main sections: Core Recipes, Companion Recipes and General Kitchen Coaching. The General Kitchen Coaching Section offers guidance on things many cookbooks assume you know, for example how to tell if your cake is really cooked in the middle.

Di Mac Cooking Coach Sweet Pleasures Delivers:

• A fully visual approach (400+ photos)
• Ingredients photos
• Step-by-step photos (all recipes)

About the Author

There are plenty of cooking shows on TV to convince us we all harbor a Master Chef within. In reality, there are few fully pictorial cookbooks for grownup novice cooks to translate this cooking passion into practical, everyday, action.

So, for those who never acquired any cooking skills, or relied on parents and grandparents for delicious well-cooked meals, Diane intends this new series of cookbooks to provide such translation.
She is launching the series with the glamour end of cooking, Sweet Pleasures (classic desserts and cakes). The series is highly visual, with clear photographs of every dish, in their various stages of preparation (including what the final dish should look like). She believes that if you can see it then you can do it.

Diane’s Mum was a tremendous cook who happily passed on her passion, and cooking skills. She is now doing the same for her own family. Her two boys are both very able cooks, regularly cooking evening meals and birthday treats. They hungrily tested many of this book’s recipes.

Her cooking skills have been strengthened by working in corporate kitchens and private catering - covering the cooking spectrum from dinner parties to party catering, and commissioned wedding, christening and big number birthday cakes, and desserts.

An avid cook, she is always thinking about the next meal, creating new recipes and tinkering with new cuisines. Her kitchen style/modus operandi has been described as “performance artist” and her formal dining room is bypassed for the conviviality of her boisterous kitchen. Friends are happily roped in to stir, chop or beat, before they share a meal they all had a hand in making.

This series of books has been inspired by her belief that if you cook for yourself you can take ownership of your diet, and health. If you do not, you cannot know what is in your food. Understanding the proportions of fats, and sugars, hidden in foods is vital to your sustained health and wellbeing. Get this right and you and will live a great life. Get it wrong and you will not. Unequivocally, we are what we eat.

Diane is a believer of dietary moderation and balance, not deprivation. She believes delicious homemade desserts cannot be beaten and should be enjoyed as part of a balanced life.

Her forthcoming books will delve into appealing savory dishes you can achieve just as easily using her visual format.
