Overview

"Diamond" is the true story of a horse and its new-found friend. Alicia was always afraid of horses, but one day, she touched one for the first time. She wanted to ride Diamond, too, but Papa promised she could ride him upon their return. Papa's work would take him and Diamond across the river. Due to heavy rains, the river had risen ten feet above normal. Crossing it would not be easy. There are currents, seen and unseen. Everyone who lived beside the river was aware of the dangers it posed if one was careless. It had taken several lives when it wasn't flooded, much more when it overflowed its bank. Will there be another tragedy?

About the Author

After nearly three decades in the teaching profession, Ms. Gloria Swift has just retired from education. Despite the challenges which were many, the triumphs made teaching worthwhile. "When I entered the profession, I had no idea that I was going to take on the roles of mother, counselor, financier, social worker, police officer, and psychiatrist, to name a few." Ms. Swift has no regrets. Before she entered the classroom, she made sure that she had the training necessary to teach all students and earned credentials in Multiple Subjects, Reading, Learning Handicapped, Administration, and a certificate to teach the Gifted and Talented. She was also a National Board Certified Teacher.

As a banker, Ms. Swift was known as the "go to person to get things done." She believed that the business experience enabled her to prepare her students for the real world. It's her greatest desire that working in business becomes a prerequisite for the teaching profession. Going from college to teaching is laden with disadvantages and young teachers have no clue about the requirements necessary to succeed in business. Thus, their students are ill- prepared to function in the workplace. Ms. Swift also served in the United States Army. Her greatest achievement was being recognized as the Distinguished Graduate in the Instructor's Training Course. In Law Enforcement, she was the first female on the police department.

Writing nonfiction is her passion. Ms. Swift enjoys writing real stories about real people. She does not shy away from the issues that affect human lives.

Most of her books can be found on amazon.com and Kindle.
