About the Author

Deanna Gwen Crawford Mooney was born in Woodward, Oklahoma, the oldest child of Gwen Souther and Ivan Crawford.  She attended the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing and during her time in Oklahoma she made many lifetime friends with whom she still spends time enjoying good times and good food.
She moved to San Francisco in her twenties where she met her future husband Sean Mooney in 1964. She supported him in his restaurant/bar businesses (Monroe’s restaurant, and Mooney’s Irish Pub). On November 16, 1971 they tried to secretly marry at city hall, but the attempt failed with PA announcements at the hospital, radio announcements from Jim Dunbar, radio host, and Herb Caen, columnist all exclaiming the event.
Deanna splits her time between San Francisco and the Sierra’s where “deck living” has become a summer past time.  Long summer days are regularly enjoyed by family and friends barbequing, drinking and playing card and domino games.
Deanna regularly enjoys her “café society” lunches around town. She loves to travel and has spent time in Dubai, Australia, Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bali.  Not to mention her many many trips to Europe, and Ireland.
Deanna spent years traveling to Ireland at least twice a year. She also traveled extensively all over Europe enjoying good food, strong drinks and generally showing everyone how to have a good time.
Over the course of her travels, Deanna has collected and carefully preserved this collection of recipes dating back to the beginning of the 18th century. To hear her utter the words “This is delicious! You have to give me the recipe!” is the highest of compliments. She saves the recipes and prepares and shares them with everyone she loves.
Deanna has spent her lifetime making sure that all of her family and friends are surrounded by the finest things in life, from Caviar to Corn Bread and everything in between. Now we can all enjoy her collection and her unique taste for years to come.
