This short novel about a beautiful young American doctor and skilled golfer who is being pursued by a lovesick and apparently idle British aristocrat has an unusual history. In 1931, Wodehouse adapted it from an earlier play based on a Hungarian work. Not surprisingly, it lacks the stylistic flair of Wodehouse's more original works. Paul Shelley's narration is adequate but is missing the zing that might have been provided by a narrator such as Jonathan Cecil, whose energetic reading of Wodehouse's The Mating Season is also available in a new AudioGO release. VERDICT A pleasant romantic distraction that should appeal to golf lovers and others.—R. Kent Rasmussen, Thousand Oaks, CA
