Released from Netflix, this second installment of their Enola Holmes films continues with Harry Bradbeer, (Enola Holmes) who previously worked on television series Fleabag and Killing Eve, directing. The sequel therefore retains the same pace and feel of the first. In this film, the teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes is on another case, and this second ride is even more satisfying than the first. While many stars from the first film return, there are fresh new faces to watch as well. Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) reprises her role as the title character while the charming Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) plays Enola's much more famous older brother Sherlock. Helena Bonham Carter returns as Sherlock and Enola's mother, along with Susan Wokoma, who plays Mrs. Holmes best friend, Edith. Film viewers who loved the romance between Enola and Tewkesbury will rejoice that Louis Partridge is back and their chemistry is just as endearing. Newcomers Hannah Dodd, Serrana Su-Ling Bliss, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster bring the new mystery to life. The first Enola Holmes began as a revisioning of the Sherlock stories with a feminist point of view, heavily carried by Brown's curious and rebellious Enola, who was raised by the irreverent and criminal Mrs. Holmes. Enola Holmes 2 really leans into exposing the role of women and young girls in Victorian London. All of the mysteries seem to begin and end with women, especially the types of women that society routinely chooses to ignore. Set in 1888, Enola Holmes 2 borrows the plot for its mystery from history. Sarah Chapman, who is known for her role in the real-life Bryant & May Matchgirls' Strike, is the woman Enola is tasked to find. Many audience members may not recognize Chapman's name or her historical significance as a pioneer of gender equality and workplace fairness, but they'll certainly be inspired to learn more about her by the end of the film. Viewers will be struck by how easily Sherlock moves through all settings of Victorian London while his sister and others like her are barred at every turn. Watching Enola persevere through great adversity will give moviegoers something to cheer about. Strongly determined, Enola, with the help of Sherlock and Tewkesbury, sets out to unmask the murderer, but there's something even more important at stake for our hero-the safety of hundreds of matchgirls. Enola's mother tells her, "Pull on every loose thread you find." Thankfully, Enola pulls on them all until every sinister plot is unraveled and the girls' lives are set right again. With the additional introductions of famous Sherlock characters, Moriarty and Dr. Watson, fans will be asking for an Enola Holmes 3 before the credits even roll.
