Artisan's double feature Wishmaster / Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies, about the evil nature of wishes, includes both films, one a special edition and the other a basic, bare-bones edition. Both movies are presented in anamorphic widescreen and look very good. The original Wishmaster tends to look much more clear than the second film, though both transfers are basically clean and crisp. The audio presentation includes Dolby Digital 5.1 for both films. The music, effects, and dialogue are clean and presentable, with the original utilizing the rear speakers more than the sequel. Wishmaster includes some promising extra features, including a very enlightening commentary track by director Robert Kurtzman, second unit director Greg Nicataro, and screenwriter Peter Atkins. The track is light, though tends to lean more towards the technical side of the film's history and production. Also included on Wishmaster is a very informative half-hour documentary on the making of the film, featuring interviews with director Robert Kurtzman, actor Andrew Divoff (who plays the evil wish-granting Djinn), and special effects supervisor Tom Rainone. Finally, an international and domestic theatrical trailer is included (full frame), as well as production notes and cast and crew information. The Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies extra features consist solely of an anamorphic theatrical trailer, as well as the typical production notes and cast and crew information found on most discs. Wishmaster 2 was not half as popular as its predecessor, so the exclusion of multiple extra features is not surprising. Overall, this is a very nice package from Artisan featuring two gory films that should delight hardcore horror fans.
