The 74 papers of this proceedings were first presented at the Fifth International Conference on Ecosystems and Sustainable Development, held in Cadiz, Spain, in May 2005. Presenting new research, the papers are grouped into topics that include thermodynamics and ecology, sustainability indicators, mathematical and system modelling, ecosystems modelling, biodiversity, sustainability development studies, and conservation and management of ecological areas. Case studies are included for locations in Italy, Cuba, Kuala Lumpur, Iran, Japan, the Baltic region, the US, India, and the Amazon Basin, among other places, by an international group of scientists in several fields.
