Overview

Spaghetti western meets Mad Max in an action-packed tale of a dystopian future.

Five hundred years from now, desperate to stave off the effects of global warming, the government of Merka covers the country's nearly two billion acres of open land with a white Tarp to reflect the sunlight. It's illegal to cut the Tarp, but all sorts of people-cutters, greenies, and banditos-do anyway. That's where the Paladinos come in.

Ranging on horseback across the desert-like Tarped land, and known by their green sombreros, Paladinos protect the Tarp, empowered to kill cutters at their own discretion. There is no due process for cutters-the Paladinos are judge, jury, and executioner. You cut the Tarp, you die.

El Paladino-he's known by no other name-has a problem. El Gotico is not your usual cutter, but a ruthless bandito who deals in forbidden technology. Facing a large, organized group of gangstas, with no other green sombreros in the area to help, El Paladino must reluctantly accept the aid of a greenie girl he barely knows and throw in his lot with a pistolero he does not trust.

Murder, mayhem, and profanity abound.

About the Author

Rev DiCerto is a writer and musician from central New York. He is the author of a number of novels in the fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, and steampunk genres. He has published numerous short stories in a variety of science fiction and fantasy anthologies. His first published novel was Fire Aloft, coauthored with Duncan Eagleson. Fire Aloft is available through B&N, as is the prequel, Marshal Gallagher and the Aeropede Bandits.

Rev's dystopian, futuristic spaghetti western novel El Paladino is inspired by numerous scientific articles and theories. A sequel has been drafted and is currently undergoing beta reads toward publication.

Rev’s favorite experience as a writer is having his short story “Animal Attraction” rejected by a horror publication. The rejection letter included the sentences “I absolutely loved this story” and “Unfortunately, it was just too disturbing for our publication.” That story, "Animal Attraction," is featured in his book The Preternaturalist, a collection of dark steampunk/fantasy fiction about the hard-to-like scientist Doctor Daniel Hobbes (not currently available through B&N).

As a musician Rev has written and recorded two CDs of original music for his former band, Sol Dog, and in December 2020 released a new CD, Taking Wing, with Kindred Soul, a band originally formed in Connecticut. In addition to songwriting, he is a lead singer and lead guitarist. He is currently writing music for an album with his new band.
