Em-Erika

Two cousins: Emily, a young American witch & Erika, an Indian lycan meet a vampiress from England. Emily and Erika come of age in early America during the late 1700s in the pre-state of Tennessee. Emily's uncle, to the chagrin of her father, Robert, visits Chickasaw Indian land and marries, producing Em's cousin, Erika. Over their formative years, Emily is kept from seeing her uncle Jed (for Robert knows nothing of his daughter); as his prejudices are strong against the natives, and now, his own brother. Nonetheless, the girls become aware of each other through 'dream-walking' abilities they both seem to possess. Erika by way of her Indian beliefs; Emily by blood, as her mother is a retired witch, also unknown by Robert. Simultaneously, during this period, an English woman-turned-vampire seeks refuge in the land of opportunity to escape a downward-spiraling situation of her own making - revenge murders upon those responsible for sending her on mission where she was ultimately turned into a vampire-cannibal hybrid. Eventually, the three ladies lives wind up on collision course to rendezvous, resulting in a wildly dark and dangerous adventure.

About the Author

A.F. Roberts was raised in Phoenix, Arizona by transplants from Chicago. As a youth, comic books and science-fiction were the major influences. High School through college brought an introduction to Christianity, which, combined with the former, birthed not only a refreshment of spirit, but an imagination unrestrained by any constrictions of that same faith.

Roberts studied Advertising Arts at Maricopa Tech (now Gateway Community College), earning an A.A.S. degree. This path led toward numerous positions in the field of community newspapers, both in-plant web press operations and pre-press layout at individual news publications. In these places, production work sometimes led to occasional photo journalism or newswriting assignment. In life, divorce and single parenting steered into journaling. In tandem, these elements began the progression into creative writing.

In time, a whimsical sci-fi notion began transforming into the novel Cross Gate. Over the course of penning the epic, Roberts was introduced to the YA supernatural genre, devouring novel after novel, both improving and inspiring his own writing.

On another occasion, while serving communion one day, an idea about a perceived parallel between the Lord’s Supper and vampire lore occurred to Roberts. Eventually, the notion turned into the novel Blood Light.

Roberts continues to reside in Phoenix, staying close to his son and self-publishing books. He maintains employment in the print industry at Short Run Printing LLC, which produces magazines and ironically, books and comics!
