Description: This is a guide to the evaluation and treatment of neurological conditions generally encountered in patients in the hospital. Each of the 19 topics is addressed by experts in that field.
Purpose: It is designed to provide guidance in the care of patients with neurological emergencies. The book meets this very worthy objective by having scholars share their insights.
Audience: The intended audience is primarily neurologists, but the book also can be a good resource for emergency medicine physicians, internists, hospitalists, and family practitioners.
Features: Each section presents clinically relevant information on its topic. Tables, color illustrations, and radiographic images are used when appropriate. For example, the section on acute respiratory failure in neuromuscular disorders uses tables to clearly outline disorders causing neuromuscular failure, key clinical findings, and key tests, as well as information about management and common pitfalls.
Assessment: This is one of the best books I've seen. Despite the small and manageable size of the book, each section encompasses a vast amount of information. It has achieved a remarkable balance between being concise and thorough. It will become an essential part of my personal library.
