Overview

Science in the broadest sense refers to any falsifiable system of knowledge attained by verifiable means, and in a narrower sense to a system of acquiring knowledge based on empiricism, experimentation, and methodological naturalism, as well as to the organized body of knowledge humans have gained by such research. Scientists maintain that scientific investigation must adhere to the scientific method, a process for evaluating empirical knowledge that explains observable events in nature as results of natural causes, rejecting supernatural notions. lslam also does not accept the possibility of a supernatural (that is accessible or interacts with Man in this life), as Muslims believe Allah's Creation, and Allah, is perfect, and He would not break His own laws. lslam was one of the first religions to reject superstition for what it was - unfounded. One of the most important features of Science, notably Physics is the precise quantitative prediction based on its current level understanding of a phenomenon. ln this aspect it differs from many religious texts where physical phenomena are depicted in a very qualitative way, often by the use of words carrying several meanings. in the history of science, lslamic science refers to the science developed under lslamic civilization between the 8th and '16th centuries, during what is known as the lslamic Golden Age. The book covers the progress of science under lslam over the centuries and examines the future prospects. Content: lslam and Science; Science in Medieval lslam; lslam and Modern Science; lslamic Scientific History: Where to Next?; The Role of Social Scientists in Muslim Societies; Rise and Fall of Muslims in Science.
