Anne S. Klee, PhD, CPRP, has worked at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System for the past ten years. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine.

Anne S. Klee, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in Connecticut. She works at VA Connecticut Healthcare System and is an assistant professor of psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Klee contributes to psychology at the national level as the past president of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division 18 (Psychologists in Public Service), and by serving on the APA Committee for Assessment and Training in Recovery. She is the 2002 recipient of the American Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Contributions by a Graduate Student, the 2007 APA Division of Psychologists in Public Service Early Career Achievement Award, and the 2012 APA Division of Psychologists in Public Service Michael S. Neale Award. She is also an Albert Schweitzer Fellow for Life and a Fellow of the Connecticut Health Foundation.

Bret A. Moore, PsyD, ABPP, is a licensed clinical psychologist in San Antonio, Texas. He is licensed as a prescribing psychologist by the New Mexico Board of Psychologist Examiners and is board certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. He is the 2007 recipient of the Arthur W. Melton Award from Division 19, which recognizes early-career achievements in military psychology, and the 2011 Early Career Achievement Award from Division 18, which recognizes achievements in public service psychology. He is the author and editor of 10 books, including Pharmacotherapy for Psychologists: Prescribing and Collaborative Roles, Handbook of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Psychologists, The Veterans and Active Duty Military Psychotherapy Treatment Planner, Living and Surviving in Harm’s Way, Wheels Down: Adjusting to Life After Deployment, Handbook of Counseling Military Couples, and The Veterans and Active Duty Military Homework Planner. Description: The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) is the national standardized test for psychology licensure. This is a study guide for the test.
Purpose: The purpose is to educate budding psychologists about the major topic areas included on the EPPP.
Audience: Clinical psychology students preparing for the EPPP are the intended audience. The book is written at an appropriate level, but some of the contributing authors are graduate students who are not yet licensed.
Features: Each chapter covers a major section of the EPPP. The first noticeable omission is a chapter on industrial and organizational psychology. This is a section of the test and it is frequently the area that clinical psychologists are least familiar with. Thus, it would be expected that any book would have this as a major focus. There are study tips and reviews of the topic areas in each chapter, as well as practice questions. Unfortunately, these are not all accurate. For example, a practice question about symptom validity asks readers to choose the one option that is not true, but all the options are true. In this case, even the explanation provided in the answer is inaccurate, reflecting a lack of knowledge about the area. Some of the concepts and terminology also are outdated. Given some of the inaccuracies and outdated information on the EPPP test itself, this may not be a concern, but certainly it should be taken into account. There is a reasonable amount of information in each chapter, although it is limited. Although the book could be a good review just before the test, its brevity may be too pronounced to be adequate preparation for the EPPP over the weeks or months ahead of time. On the back cover, an endorsement states, "This is an efficient alternative to expensive EPPP preparation courses," but other EPPP study guides often contain 4-6 volumes, each one equal in length to this book, to give some idea of relatively cursory nature of this book.
Assessment: Although it would be every student's dream to be able to study for such an important exam with a short book, this one falls short of providing an accurate and comprehensive study guide. It is most suitable as a complement to other study strategies rather than an alternative.
