Description: This is an eighth edition introductory textbook of anatomy and physiology. It updates the previous edition published in 2014.
Purpose: This classic textbook continues the tradition of its predecessors by remaining a science textbook for beginning students. The authors state the focus is to present basic anatomy and physiology simply yet precisely and clearly with superb illustrations to complement the text. These stated objectives are met.
Audience: The book is written as an introduction to the world of anatomy and physiology. Although not specifically stated, it is intended for upper high school and undergraduate levels. The authors have written previous editions of this book as well as other textbooks, so they are unquestionably experts in their respective fields.
Features: The book is divided into chapters. Each chapter begins with a chapter outline, student objectives, new terminology, and related clinical terminology and is organized from simple to more complex topics. The chapters interlink with cross references to reinforce concepts learned from previous chapters. Illustrations reinforce chapter content and contain unique application questions. Various figures, boxes, and tables are also included. Each chapter ends with a summary, study outline, chapter review questions, and a section labeled "For Further Thought."
Assessment: This is an excellent update of a classic textbook. As medical advances and human understanding of anatomy and physiology continue to evolve, it is hoped the authors will continue to revise this book. Well done.
