About the Author

Marie Boltz, PhD, RN, GNP-BC, FGSA, FAAN, is the Elouise Ross Eberly and Robert Eberly Endowed Chair Professor, Penn State College of Nursing, where she teaches both gerontological nursing and PhD courses. She is a gerontological nurse consultant at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, the Office of Inspector General, and the Department of Justice, and a senior nurse scientist at the Munn Center for Nursing Research, Massachusetts General Hospital.

Elizabeth A. Capezuti, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the William Randolph Hearst Foundation Chair in gerontology at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing of the City University of New York (CUNY). Dr. Capezuti teaches in the graduate doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program and is a professor in the PhD program in nursing science and social welfare at the Graduate Center, CUNY.

Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the president of The John A. Hartford Foundation in New York City (NYC), a foundation dedicated to improving the care of older adults. Established in 1929, the Foundation has a current endowment of more than half a billion dollars. She previously served as distinguished professor and dean of Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University. Before that, she served as the Erline Perkins McGriff Professor and dean of New York University (NYU) College of Nursing.

DeAnne Zwicker, DrNP, AGNP-BC, is a certified adult nurse practitioner and geriatric nurse practitioner. She is currently working as an independent geriatric consultant.

Description: This book covers areas in geriatric care such as assessment and management, clinical interventions, and approaches in different clinical specialties. It offers tables, protocols, and resources that are useful to readers and gives digital access, which is a huge benefit. This is a sixth edition and the previous edition was published in 2016.
Purpose: The purpose is to assist professional caregivers with best practices in caring for older populations who have the most complex health needs. For nurse leaders, protocols and best practices are a foundation for providing quality care. The book also addresses much needed social issues that impact health care for older adults.
Audience: The book is written for practitioners such as geriatrics nurses and geriatric nurse practitioners. It is also a good resource for student nurses interested in pursuing the specialty of geriatrics. The authors and contributors are from a wide variety of educational institutions, providing a broad yet comprehensive assessment of the needs and care of the geriatric population.
Features: The chapters contain educational objectives, appropriate tables and figures, and many references, interventions, and strategies. One unique feature of the book is that it assists the practitioner in incorporating what they read into practice. It includes clinical as well as social aspects and interventions in different specialties such as surgical, cancer care, and substance abuse for the geriatric population.
Assessment: Clinical practice changes frequently with new and ongoing research so this book is very needed to show current practices and protocols. The book and the digital media complement each other and enhance readers' ability to use the information.
