About the Author

Suzanne Tucker is recognized as one of the country’s leading interior designers. She and partner Timothy F. Marks founded Tucker & Marks in 1986, and the firm has long been considered one of the most respected and successful interior design firms in the United States. Tucker’s work has been featured in international magazines and numerous books including her own, Rooms to Remember: The Classic Interiors of Suzanne Tucker (Monacelli; 2009) and Suzanne Tucker Interiors: The Romance of Design (Monacelli; 2013).

In this intimate tour of 10 homes—plus her own hideaway in Santa Barbara, CA—interior designer Tucker (Suzanne Tucker Interiors) takes readers on a journey of some of her most exquisite work: A Bay Area Italian Renaissance-inspired mansion with an imported marble natatorium and hand-carved grotto; a glamorous Manhattan apartment filled with mid-century delights; a majestic stone-walled fortress overlooking the mountains of Big Sky country in Montana. Tucker reveals homes so luxurious and meticulously styled, it's hard to believe they're inhabited. Apart from a few paragraphs on context (how the clients want to feel in their homes and where they are located), culture (how identity is connected to a person's possessions and a home's atmosphere), and brief introductions of each property, there's not much text in the book. However, all the bright and beautiful photos are accompanied by detailed descriptions of the elaborate art, textiles, and furniture in the homes, which give readers some idea of how the pieces lend to the form and function of their surroundings. VERDICT A delightful peek at the extraordinary interiors of the extraordinarily wealthy.—Erin Dagenais
