About the Author

Agnes M. F. Wong, MD, PhD, FRCSC received her undergraduate degree from Boston University. She then obtained her MD degree from McGill University and completed her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto. After that, she completed a PhD in Neuroscience and clinical fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto. This was followed by a combined research and clinical fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Wong is currently Associate Professor of Ophthalmology &Vision Science, Neurology, and Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Description: This is a clear, comprehensible, and concise book on eye movement disorders.
Purpose: The purpose is to present the information on eye movement disorders in a clear and concise manner so that the information is comprehensive but not exhaustive and easy to assimilate. This book does an excellent job, more than fulfilling this purpose and the author has to be congratulated for writing on a topic that can be difficult.
Audience: The book is written for medical students, residents, and fellows in neurology as well as practicing neurologists and neuro-ophthalmologists. It is at the same time comprehensive and contemporary, so one can keep it out for ready reference. The author is well known for her work in the field of eye movement.
Features: The first of the book's four parts consists of chapters on the eye movement subsystems. The thematic concepts are discussed on the left-hand pages, with accompanying figures, a synopsis of pertinent points and important clinical points (highlighted in green) on the right-hand pages. Parts II through IV describe different eye movement disorders in detail. The text is readable, using bulleted and numbered lists to present the information. The use of color-coded sections makes for a ready review. The accompanying CD-ROM with video clips of eye movement disorders is a huge plus, as are the relevant schematic illustrations.
Assessment: This readable and contemporary description of a difficult topic is well organized, walking the fine line between being comprehensive and exhaustive. The book is easy to understand and the CD-ROM has excellent video clips. A minor criticism is that the illustrations could be larger to make them easier to see.
