Failure of the Gods: Journey:
In this prequel to the Failure of the Gods series, Earth is embroiled in a widening regional war, deadly politics and on-going economic collapse. Amidst the chaos, nations band together on an ambitious project to extend man's presence beyond Earth by establishing a permanent presence on the Moon, Mars and even beyond. And now, in 2050, the project is at a crucial stage – hundreds of brave men and women begin the journey as the enormous ship Intrepid leaves Earth, bound for the red planet. Inside the great ship are twenty Explorer craft and thousands of containers holding everything the colonists will need to not only survive but thrive on a desolate world that has no use for them and will do all it can to stop them.

But, the Intrepid will never make it to Mars.

Light years away, an advanced civilization is, itself, embroiled in conflict. Faced with destruction by an enemy developing a supreme race designed to conquer not just every world in this terraformed solar system, but every world of every solar system, they abduct the Intrepid in a last desperate act to infuse new technology and develop a way to defeat their enemy before it's too late. Unfortunately, the Intrepid collides with an object soon after the ship achieves orbit around the planet and is destroyed.

Yet there are survivors.

Bryce Tyrell and his crew, along with members from the Intrepid itself, are caught on board their Explorer ship as the destruction starts and manage to get away before the ship disintegrates completely. Now, he and his deputy commander, Tatiana Melenkov, fight to save their craft and themselves from destruction as the descent into the planet's atmosphere buffets and batters the ship. Systems failing, Bryce and Tatiana must use every bit of their skill to land the stricken ship anywhere they can, and, if they survive, find a way to endure being marooned on a planet even more hostile than Mars.
