About the Author

Dora Mollen has lived in northern Wisconsin for 33 years. Study of the fungi in the area has been key interest of hers. In 1996 she helped form the Northstate Mycological Club and has been club coordinator ever since. She leads Fungi forays, lectures and teaches classes aimed at introducing students to the fascinating fungi of the North Woods.

Rick Kollath started illustrating in nursery school and now he's lucky enough to draw pictures for a living. He runs a design studio in Duluth and co-owns Kollath-Stensaas Publishing with Sparky Stensaas. Rick has taught in Austria and traveled around Europe as a climbing bum. Now he gets thrills riding the big waves on the big lake in his little sea kayak.

Larry Weber has recently retired from a 40-year career as a science teacher. He taught students from seventh grade up to graduate school. His awards include the Minnesota Secondary Science Teacher of the Year in 1993 and the National Biology Teacher Association's Middle School Life Science Teacher of the Year for 1998. Larry writes a weekly phenology column for a local newspaper, presents phenology updates for two radio stations and is a regular contributor to the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer. He lives with his wife on an old farm in Carlton County, Minnesota where he watches, photographs and writes about critters.

Bonnie Wenborg is a transplant from Chicago where she drew and sketched portraits of her classmates beginning in grade school. She graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and has worked as a graphic designer for most of her adult life. She gained a wide variety of skills working in small graphic design studios, print shops and a large advertising agency. She's lived on both coasts but thinks Minnesota's best. "It's a pleasure and a privilege to be an illustrator - whether painting mushrooms, jeans or toolbags."
