The three stories in this book, while part of the scholarly “Father Brown” canon, were never published in any of the five anthologies which comprise the stories normally available to the general public. The first two stories, together titled “The Donnington Affair,” include a challenge by the publisher of the obscure “Premier” magazine, Sir Max Pemberton, and G.K. Chesterton's delightful response, a pair of tales in the very best Father Brown tradition. The third story, “The Mask of Midas,” is widely believed to have been Chesterton's very last Father Brown story, written near the end of Chesterton's life and never included in any contemporary anthology.
While the five books of Father Brown tales available elsewhere are undeniable works of genius, what follows is a setting of gems which to many existed only in rumor, once lost but now found. This is a collection no fan of Chesterton's famous, frumpy little detective should be without.
