Overview

"Someone has to die first..."

In Finding My Reflection, Katie gives voice to the truth that death waits for us all, and we don't get to choose who gets left behind.

As she works through her grief at losing her husband to Lou Gehrig's disease, Katie shares the heart-breaking lessons she learned about life, love, and loss.

Inspired from her perspective as a caregiver for her terminally ill husband, she gives voice to thoughts and feelings, as raw as they are riveting. Katie shares the rare gift of hindsight that stems from her husband's death while she struggles to find a new identity in her broken world. Her journey of self-reflection will have you examining your own life - determining where you are right now, and, ultimately, where you want to be.

About the Author

Katie started writing after her husband, Charlie, died of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis; Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Charlie was diagnosed in July 2013, just one-month shy of his fortieth birthday. As ALS stole all of Charlie’s physical abilities, Katie became his full-time caregiver. He battled the disease for three years and passed away on October 12, 2016.

Katie and Charlie met while on active duty in the U.S. Navy and married in 1994 on the beach in La Jolla. They have one daughter. Katie and her daughter recently moved to Maine from their home state of Texas in search of “Silver Town.” They look forward to enjoying the first of many white Christmases in their near future.
