Overview

What if highly developed, multifunctional, GPS equipped rescue robots, with long-life tracking devices, and a debris shield, had accompanied the first responders of the 9-1-1 terrorist attacks into the World Trade Center in New York? How many more lives might have been saved? The subsequent search for survivors through the rubble only located 20 people still alive. This story is about the catalyst that triggered the race to develop sophisticated rescue robots capable of going in first to access danger levels, put out fires, unblock exits, and locate trapped survivors.
