In a world of super heroes and villains, having superpowers doesn't necessarily make you a hero or villain. Sometimes you might save a damsel-in-distress on a whim. Other times you might rob a drug dealer blind and fleece an unsuspecting mark for cash. In my case, I'm simply out for revenge against Doctor Andros, a death dealer to villains everywhere, after escaping being experimented on for three years and developing powers of my own.
But I'm not alone. Several others gained abilities of their own and working alongside a team, we have to try and collect the rest of our allies before Andros gets his hands on them first. And we have to do it all without drawing the eyes of the Hero Coalition or other villains who'd love to find out just what makes us special.
This exciting action-adventure novella is over [27,700 words] and serves as the first entry into the Chasing Andros series.
Excerpt:
Oh great. The behemoth was charging me this time. "This is gonna suck..."
Narrowing my Flux Zone to a straight line, I liquefied the surface layer of metal enough to make it slippery and fell into a slide. The gunmetal-colored fluid stained my track suit and covered my backside in the cold, wet metal as I slid beneath its massive bulk and out of imminent danger, while the behemoth crashed into the wall and staggered as everything in the room not nailed down rattled or jumped.
The ghostly strings appeared from all over, bouncing off multiple surfaces before coiling around its limbs and pulling, the different angled pulleys tethering it in place. Marionette stated, "Its hide is too thick for me to slice through and my strings can't hold it for more than a few seconds!"
"Alright, I'm putting it down!" Mercy stated. "Give me a bridge!"
Sweat dotted my brow as I put all my concentration into stretching the now malleable metal surface of the floor that was still liquefied from my slide and raising it. It surged forth in a metallic wave and washed over the behemoth before I removed my connection and hardened it instantly. I had it pinned in a layer of metal with a connecting slope.
The behemoth howled in annoyance, struggling to get free from the metal binding and strange strands as Mercy ran up the ramp. Metal screeched and bent as the bulwark I made was about to give way when she finally laid hands on it...
And then I stood there slack-jawed as she disintegrated the damn thing.
Flesh began to evaporate, rising like steam and breaking down like ashes as they floated away in a beautiful, mortifying way. Death throes filled the air as its muscles began to follow suit, the stench of putrid melting burning my nose. Even that ceased once it no longer had vocal cords, eyes, or even entrails.
In less than ten seconds it had left nothing but bones behind, a final testament that there was once a great beast here.
