Description: The outline format, the vocabulary lists, and the summary statements in this book on periodontics make the information easy to understand and reference. The illustrations, drawings and charts are clear and concise.
Purpose: According to the authors, their goal is to educate dental professionals in the study of periodontal disease. These objectives are met in a precise and orderly manner in language that is at the level of those currently in school and those who have been out of school for any length of time.
Audience: The primary target of this book is the student population, but I believe that it can be used by hygienists currently practicing and dentists who would like to understand periodontal disease more fully. The authors display an in-depth knowledge of their subject and also an understanding of how it relates to clinical practice.
Features: This book addresses everything from a basic anatomy and physiology review to the chemical structures of bacteria. It has easy to understand drawings, charts, and tables. The case studies at the end of each chapter are an innovative method of relating the information to the clinical setting. The resources in the appendix are helpful.
Assessment: This book is educational and informative. The different methods of displaying the information will appeal to the various learning styles of the readers. It can be used by a variety of professionals in the dental field.
