Overview

From a Jack to a King is a 31-track anthology that collects everything Ned Miller recorded for Fabor Records (some of which was released through Dot) plus a handful of recordings from a brief stint with Capitol. Miller's complete commercial output through 1964 is accounted for, with the exception of a lone single on Jackpot. His career hit, the crossover smash "From a Jack to a King," is here, as well as "Do What You Do, Do Well," "Invisible Tears," and "Dark Moon," which was a hit for both Bonnie Guitar and Gale Storm. Miller's album tracks and B-sides were very uneven, and a number of the Fabor Robison-produced tracks have a peculiar sound, as though the music is emanating from a speaker in another room. The hits are the clear highlights on this package, and there are otherwise too few quality tracks to recommend this disc to anyone but serious collectors. ~ Greg Adams
