Newfoundland's geology includes the Archean and Proterozoic tectonic history, stratigraphy, the Paleozoic Taconic orogeny with emphasis on the central and eastern Avalonian geology, Nain, Churchill, Superior, and Grenville Provinces. New Brunswick geology addresses the Proterozoic terranes, Paleozoic terranes, Phanerozoic sedimentary cover sequences, closure of the Iaepetus Ocean, the Taconic, Salinic, and Acadian orogens.
