Overview

Edited by Abe Levitsky, Ph.D., this book is based on transcripts of training workshops conducted by the late James Simkin, Ph.D., a long-time associate of Frederick Perls and a founder of the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Los Angeles.

From the foreword by Erving Polster:

"The book provides a view into the mind of one of the magnificent therapists of his day, one whose work gave honor to the concepts he describes. Jim Simkin was a therapeutic stylist who demonstrated the powerful leverage of high attention, accurate perceptions, honesty, common sense, and a talent for saying the timely word. He became a wizard among the many people he taught, continually offering cunning confrontations to the mysteries he witnessed. These mysteries enthralled him to the end; yet one of his prime accomplishments was to demystify the mysterious by turning it into common human experience, understandable and assimilable. The reader will see this process manifested over and over in this book."
