After losing his parents, Rikt struggles with a fear of being alone. The anxiety becomes unbearable when he receives three prophecies from a mysterious witch, one of which foretells a terrible fate for his best friend, a wolf named Fish-breath. After the first two prophecies prove true, Rikt meets Ms. Evelyn, a friendly human who offers them protection at Underwood, her boarding school for monstrous creatures and wayward wolves. Rikt soon learns things at Underwood are not what they seem and suspects the other children are in danger. With the help of a servant troll girl and a neurotic faun, Rikt must uncover the mystery of Underwood before he learns first-hand what horrors await at the bottom of an ancient well.

Will Perkins is an illustrator and Artist who most recently published 2021's 'GOBLIN', a Middle-Grade Fantasy graphic novel from Dark Horse Books. Will has also contributed as Artist on the 2017 Graphic Novel from Dark Horse, Gregory Suicide.

Growing up in Upstate NY, Will graduated from SUNY Geneseo and lives in Rochester, NY.

Overpowered and nearly defeated, the pair are rescued by a strange couple called Ms. Evelyn and Mr. Domo, who take them to their safe haven for orphaned creatures in the Whispering Woods: a boarding school called Underwood. Rikt's initial reluctance to accept the too-good-to-be-true offer is well-grounded, as the goblin boy and his lupine companion join the ranks of other unlucky, wandering creatures who have been forced to give up their beliefs in magic and legends and comply with the school's teachings. Aided by a troll serving girl named Oola, who is Mr. Domo's daughter and the rightful heir to Underwood, they devise an elaborate escape plan and discover a well that leads to a reverse world in which missing orphans have aged into zombie-like slaves, thus setting the stage for the next installment. This high-drama quest builds in intensity as the unlikely hero and his wolf fall in and out of danger, offset by Rikt's comical, well-timed quips and gags.
