Good Deeds
Lanny Bells just wants to do the right thing. He saves the life of a man who has been tortured and left for dead, his chest and abdomen sliced, his arms and legs tied to the ground. It looks to Lanny like an attack by some sort of fanatic cult. A ritualistic sacrifice. It’s a crazy idea, but Lanny is finding that the world he knows isn’t as sane as he once thought, and some crazy ideas are horribly close to the truth.

This particular man was supposed to die. Death is the natural order, and now Nature itself wants payment. The earth has come alive and needs the sacrifice that Lanny prevented. But some don’t want the sacrifice completed, and are happy to see the devastation. If Lanny can't find a way to stop it, first the town of Oakview will be swallowed whole. Then all of humanity.

Lanny is about to discover that sometimes doing the right thing is wrong.

About the Author

D. Miles Martin is a former English teacher who now writes horror and dark fantasy from my home near the Lake Michigan shoreline where he lives with my wife. He has been inventing stories since he was ten years old. When not fretting about comma placement, he enjoys rock climbing, volunteering, reading (of course) and a fine glass of wine.

A passion for volunteering and helping others brought him to teaching. While he doesn’t still teach, he hasn’t lost the passion for volunteering. He firmly believes that if you surround yourself with good people you will have no choice but do good yourself. His books might keep you up at night, but my blog is meant to inspire. He has met a lot of great people through volunteering and living a life of smiles. His blog shares some of those people he has met along the way and hopefully gives some information about how absolutely anyone can give back.
