Es una de las obras cumbres de la literatura rusa y sin lugar a dudas de la literatura universal. En ella, Tolstói quiso narrar las vicisitudes de numerosos personajes de todo tipo y condición a lo largo de unos cincuenta años de historia rusa, desde las guerras napoleónicas hasta más allá de mediados del siglo XIX.

Una parte de la crítica afirma que el sentido original del título sería Guerra y mundo. De hecho, las palabras paz y mundo son homónimas en ruso y se escriben igual a partir de la reforma ortográfica rusa de 1918.

About the Author

A Russian author of novels, short stories, plays, and philosophical essays, Count Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) was born into an aristocratic family and is best known for the epic books War and Peace and Anna Karenina, regarded as two of the greatest works of Russian literature. After serving in the Crimean War, Tolstoy retired to his estate and devoted himself to writing, farming, and raising his large family. His novels and outspoken social polemics brought him world-wide fame.
