H. Rider Haggard - King Solomon's Mines
King Solomon's Mines, H. Rider Haggard's breakout novel is a grand adventure, an Indiana Jones archetype from the great age of Victorian imperialism.

The narrator, Allan Quatermain, is a big game hunter known far and wide, and as a result he is approached by a pair of men with an unusual proposition.

One of the men, Sir Henry Curtis, has lost a brother whom he believes was searching for the legendary diamond mines of King Solomon.

Quatermain just happens to possess a map and personal knowledge of the legends, and with a deal in place to grant him half of the diamonds--he agrees to join them on the journey.

Elephant hunts, witchcraft, and tribal warfare complicate their quest, but in the end all works out well--if unexpectedly--for most involved.

King Solomon's Mines is a timeless adventure story for readers of all ages, with well-drawn characters and excitement on every page.

About The Author

Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English author of adventure novels set in exotic locales, predominantly Africa. King Solomon’s Mines, one of his best-known books, details the life of the explorer Allan Quartermain. She: A History of Adventure followed, introducing the character Ayesha. While much of Haggard’s reputation stems from those two books and their subsequent series, he also wrote nonfiction and short stories.
