Description: This new book fills an important niche for the practicing toxicologist by providing a single source of well-referenced, practical information on toxicology methods and data pertinent to the study of human toxicology. The book has multiple contributors, and much of the information is contained in well-referenced tables.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a useful compendium of toxicologic information. Although the handbook admittedly does not cover all aspects of the field, it does focus in rich detail on metals toxicology, nutrition and toxicology, inhalation toxicology, immunotoxicology, and reproductive and developmental toxicology.
Audience: The book appears to be targeted primarily towards practicing toxicologists, especially those involved in experimental toxicology. The discussions that focus on current knowledge as opposed to methods are also useful for non-specialists. The contributors have been selected by the editor for their recognized expertise in their fields.
Features: Of particular value in this book are the numerous, well-referenced tables. A reader wishing to find information on a specific fact or method will likely find it in a table and be directed to a current reference for more in-depth inquiries. The book also has many useful illustrations.
Assessment: This book will be a practical bench or desktop companion for the practicing toxicologist who wants to reach for a single source of pertinent information.
