Overview

1964 was one of the greatest years for rock and pop music, as the British Invasion stormed through the U.K. into America, the girl group scene stayed strong, surf music moved from the beaches onto the charts, soul music began coming of age, and a number of veteran pop acts stood up to the challenges of the new teenage music. Hit Parade Records celebrates this landmark year with Hard to Find Jukebox Classics: 1964 Rock, Rhythm & Pop, which includes a number of less well-known hits from 1964 as well as better-known tunes appearing on CD in rare stereo mixes. Ten of the songs on this disc have never previously appeared in stereo on an American release, and another five are available on CD in the United States for the first time on this set. Hard to Find Jukebox Classics: 1964 includes classic tunes by the Animals, Lesley Gore, the Ventures, Dusty Springfield, B.B. King, the Kinks, Dean Martin, the Paris Sisters, the Ronettes, Johnny Rivers, Herman's Hermits, and many more; it also features Diane Renay's teen heartbreak classic "Navy Blue," as well as Renay's own sequel, "Kiss Me, Sailor." ~ Mark Deming
