Far north in the Highlands of Scotland, Rory Keith completes his knighthood training at the tender age of 18. In the service of the Earl of Sutherland, Rory must leave his beloved foster family and the young lassie he has grown to care for deeply. Alas, she is a mere 12 summers, and Rory would never dally with a girl that young.
Rory soon finds himself being called away to serve at the Battle of Auldearn. Meanwhile, Christina returns home to the Lindsay land holdings and life proceeds as usual for many years. That is until Sir Malcolm's plot to take revenge on perceived slights comes into play. Christina finds herself being taken captive and dragged back to the northern highlands in the back of a crude hay wagon. On her journey, she awakes to find another captive alongside her. The man was stripped bare and bound tightly hand and foot.
Together the two captives discover they are not mere strangers, they are the best of friends. Sir Rory and Christina must now battle for their freedom as well as face the demons from within.
