This is Fox's fifth book in her "Midnight Pass, Texas" series after Undercover K-9 Cowboy. FBI agent Noah Ross is back in Midnight Pass, and this time his quarry is former agent Rick Statler, who has so far eluded capture. Their only viable lead is Statler's ex-girlfriend, Shayne Erickson. Though she is initially a suspect, when Noah rescues her from a violent attack by Statler, he starts to believe she is actually innocent. Shayne's trust in men has been shattered by her experience with Statler, though, and she's not sure if she can learn to trust him again. VERDICT Readers of the series won't want to miss its conclusion here. Though the villain does veer toward the cartoonish as the story continues, the romance is enjoyable, and the ending is satisfying.—Rebecca Moe
