Hike On - Poems from Mount Desert Island Maine
Bennett's imagery of nature is focused through the lens of a biologist. Concise and lyrical poems result from Bennett's explorations, observations and meditations, coupled with his rare perspective. He transforms sight-ings and experiences into poems that capture the area's beauty and complexity, along with the struggles and accommodations among its wildlife. His natural curiosity about the trails he hikes and his considerations of them over time result in unique poems as varied as the environments of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park.

REVIEW: It is a wonderful book! I have known Mt. Desert Island for at least 40 years ... Hike On is a wonderful mix of science, poetry, and evocative, thoughtful reflections on life. There were some poems that made me smile (Snail's Feast), some poems that made me sad and even angry (Evacuation), and some that caught my attention by their interesting mix of beauty and violence (Star Hunter). The section entitled Vacationland does a beautiful job in capturing so many of the things that most appeal to us about Maine. You have the rare ability to revive sensations that gave palpable feeling to experiences we all have and love, but rarely articulate (especially Morning Sounds and Misty Communications).
