About the Author

Scott M. Bushnell is the author of Historic Photos of Fort Wayne (Turner Publishing, 2007). He is a former reporter and editor for newspapers in New York and Connecticut and the Associated Press. Bushnell is also the author of Hard News, Heartfelt Opinions: A History of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette and co-author of Roanoke: The Renaissance of a Hoosier Village. He and his wife, Barbara, reside in northeastern Indiana.

This coffee-table volume includes almost 200 historic photos of Indiana faces and places spanning over 100 years, from the 1850's through the 1960's. There's no shortage of books featuring archival Indiana images, but this stands out. The pictures cover a wide gamut of Indiana life - cities, small towns and countryside. The quality of the reproductions is high and the photographs themselves have a better than average compositional integrity. The 19th and early 20th century images are especially appealing. This is a well-chosen collection that evokes a strong sense of place.
