Historical Vignettes, 1st Series
Author Bernard Capes (1854-1918) was an English journalist and prolific author of the Victorian era who published more than forty books, including romances, mysteries, poetry, history. He wrote numerous magazine articles published in prominent British periodicals of the time, and served as editor of "The Theatre" monthly magazine and also wrote numerous ghost stories. He later devoted himself full-time to writing novels, often publishing two or three novels per year. He died in the 1918 flue epidemic. Born in London, one of eleven children in a Roman Catholic family, to a mother who was herself a noted translator and author of more than a dozen children's books. His son and grandson are also published authors. His "Historical Vignettes, 1st Series," published in 1910, contains articles previously published in magazines.
