Gr 3–5—Many students familiar with computers, Wi-Fi, and the Cloud may not know how these everyday technologies work, and this series sets out to explain this in clear, age-appropriate language that speaks to readers, not down to them. Familiar brands and websites appear alongside stories of the people who played key roles in the tech's development, and fascinating details, such as the cost of the first cell phone ($4,000 for Motorola's DynaTAC 8000x), will have readers clamoring for more. Various visuals, including photos, diagrams, charts, and a technology time line, are integrated into the design of each book and visually extend the reading experience, as do the plentiful "Fast Fact" sidebars. VERDICT A top consideration, especially where students are asking for more STEM materials.
