Overview

First things first: this is not your grandma's social work textbook. There are no regulations to review, no mid-term or final to study for, and it probably won't help you pass your licensing exam. Instead, this book focuses on you - the person behind the title - and how to make yourself more purposely influential in every area of your life. Think of it as Self-Help 101 for the professional helper - a transformational lesson on how the very best and most balanced social workers straddle the thin line between their well being and their clients'. Once you become truly aware of the things that hinder your process, you'll be amazed to find how easy it is to bust through those road blocks and not only enhance your skills, but help a lot more people in the process. This helper-friendly guide reveals: -The Truth About People Who Seek Help -How to Spot an Unhealthy Practitioner and Make Sure You're Not One of Them -The #1 Governing Principle of Social Work Practice (And Why It's The Only One That Matters) -Guaranteed Ways To Avoid Burnout and Love Your Profession and Life

About the Author

Born of Jamaican and American heritage, Eva Forde moved to Jamaica, West Indies in 2005 and subsequently became the head of the Social Work Programme at Northern Caribbean University - a position which she held until 2011. Prior to that, Eva received a bachelors degree in Social Work (BSW) from Oakwood College (now Oakwood University) in 1999, and a Masters of Science in Social Work (MSSW) from Columbia University. She has worked with the elderly, hospice, abused women and children, families in crisis, people living with HIV & AIDS, and survivors of torture. She also has a broad range of inter-agency experience in Jamaica and the United States.
Eva is presently the President of Jamaica Association of Social Workers (JASW), a senior facilitator with Pure Potential (www.purepotential.yolasite.com), and serves on the board of Human Rights and Democracy International (http://www.hradi.org/home). Eva is the founder and director of Positive Solutions International (PSI), a social interventions company that designs, implements, monitors and assesses social interventions currently in Jamaica.
Although her plate may seem to be full, Eva has expanded her methods of social intervention. She believes that it is not enough to attempt to cure social issues, but that we must also exercise prevention so potential issues do not occur. For this reason she has established herself as a performance coach for social workers, businesses and couples. She has a passion for helping people reach success in life and is dedicated to educating people on how to reach their goals and live life with authenticity and passion!
In addition to running PSI and being a coach, Eva is a dynamic public speaker and group trainer. A consummate student of personal wellness and development, she avidly presents on topics at the core of life success management such as Personal Mastery and Creating a Wealth Mentality. She is also available for motivating youth and adults in relationship and goal oriented issues. To contact Eva in the US call (917)579-7903. In Jamaica call (876)358-3994. Or email eva@evaforde.com.
