About the Author

RICHARD PHILLIPS PALMER is professor emeritus, Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Simmons College, Boston, Massachusetts. He has extensive international consulting experience, including the development of a satellite information system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and libraries in the Sultanate of Oman.

HARVEY VARNET is director of the University Library at Governors State University,University Park, Illinois. He has written extensively on various aspects of library and information science and has initiated extensive database searching programs at several campuses. During 1979-80, he taught in Nigeria on a Fulbright-Hays grant.
