NOVEMBER 2016 - AudioFile
REDUCTRESS is a satirical women’s magazine that takes down the mainstream media’s condescension and hypocrisy regarding women’s place in the world. Narrated by one of its founders, this savvy broadside exposes our culture’s subtle biases and makes fun of everyone who participates, knowingly or not. The two narrators sound similar and have similar sensibilities. Their enthusiastic, often exaggerated performances will sound adolescent to some ears, and perfect for the material to others. Overall, their lively performances, the book’s sharp wit, and the serious advice suggested in the narratives make this audio both fun and enlightening. With the disrespect of women now prominent in the cultural conversation, this kind of well-crafted humor will be yet another channel through which all of us can become more aware and evolved.
