About the Author

Janko Lavrin (1887-1986) was a Slovenian novelist, poet, critic, and historian. The editor of European Quarterly, and an employee of the BBC Radio, he also founded the Slavic Department at the University of Nottingham—where he served as professor of Russian literature.
