Malesevi<'c> (political science and sociology, National U. of Ireland) examines the ideologies of political legitimacy of Yugoslavia and two of its successor states, Croatia and Serbia, presenting a theoretical approach that balances the normative and operative functioning of ideology and explores questions of ideology's self perception and perception of social reality. He reviews the main conceptual treatments of the topic, synthesizing and amending the theories of ideology, testing the Weberian concept of legitimacy by way of his three case studies, and identifying the ideologization of charisma as the dominant form of the regime's legitimation in all three cases.
