About the Author

Michael E. Frisina, PhD, is founder/CEO of The Frisina Group LLC, Elgin, S.C., and The Center for Influential Leadership. He is an author, educator and consultant specializing in healthcare leadership and performance improvement. He is also an internationally known speaker and the author of Influential Leadership: Change Your Behavior, Change Your Organization, Change Health Care. Dr. Frisina was previously assistant professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. He has held administration positions in both military and civilian healthcare systems at various levels of increasing responsibility.

Purpose: The purpose is to help those interested in leadership to become influential leaders. The book centers on three key concepts of leadership.
Audience: The audience includes any member of the healthcare team who is interested in leadership and aspires to become an influential leader.
Features: The book covers the key concepts of influential leadership, which the author denotes as self-awareness, collaboration, and connection. The author discusses these concepts and highlights important areas in each. The book includes key points and application questions for readers. The applications are interesting and the book is easy to read and understand.
Assessment: This will be a good resource for those interested in either becoming a leader or building on their leadership skills. The ideas it addresses, such as the C4 model, are novel and outline an interesting approach to leadership. The book points out that much of becoming an influential leader rests on the individual becoming aware of, and changing, his or her own behavior. This is an important concept, as so often we try to change others or our situation. Nice contribution to any leadership library!
