Overview

Fabulous' Instrumental Bee Gees collection is a step above the label's normal output because, this time around, they forego their usual MIDI-based arrangements for real instruments. The collection doesn't dwell on any of the Bee Gees' disco hits, but focuses on the band's mellow folk and ballad output. "Massachusetts," "New York Mining Disaster 1941," "How Deep Is Your Love," and many others get some major easy listening greasing here, with tons of reverb (and little passion) issuing forth from the smarmy saxophones and ultra-clean guitars. Fans of the Bee Gees' mellower material may find portions of this disc a somewhat enjoyable listening experience, but for the most part, the uninspired performances found on Instrumental Bee Gees are better suited for commercial background music applications. ~ J.
