Description: Dr. Krueger's latest book attempts to provide both a biological (anatomic) and psychological framework of the body self and psychological self. Using Freud and Winnicott, among others, the book attempts to provide a better understanding of the mind-body connection in the analytic patient.
Purpose: This work makes the case for the integration of the body self and the psychological self to better understand and ultimately help the patient.
Audience: Psychiatry residents, psychology doctoral candidates, or other mental health professionals with in interest in the analytic view of the patient are the targets of this book.
Features: Several vignettes and excellent references make this book worth perusing. The copious quotes at the beginning of each chapter are distracting at times.
Assessment: Overall this book is useful. It brings together the anatomical and developmental schools of thought regarding what makes our patients tick. It also provides insight on why they seek our help and ways we as therapists can help to bring this from the unconscious to the conscious.
