Purpose: The purpose is to describe a very direct approach to clinical problems encountered by care providers who treat patients with chronic kidney disease and dialysis patients. The book accomplishes this objective, providing multidisciplinary insight to the complications of vascular access.
Audience: It is written primarily for those who specialize in the care of dialysis patients, particularly those interested in vascular access. The authors are renowned experts in this field and are some of the leading officials in vascular access.
Features: The book covers a variety of perioperative necessities, vascular access techniques, and procedural complications. Particularly helpful are the detailed physical examination techniques outlined for the practitioner. The numerous fluoroscopic images enhance the explanations, but those unfamiliar with this aspect of anatomy may find it a bit difficult to follow based on the images alone. The images themselves are vivid and helpful, but the lack of anatomical labels makes it difficult to appreciate the techniques.
Assessment: Overall, this is a wonderful resource for those wishing to learn more about dialysis access and the evaluation of the patients requiring it. There are not a lot of resources in the evolving specialty of interventional nephrology, and this book is sure to become one of the go-to resources for aspiring interventionalists.
