About the Author

L. Edward Phillips is Associate Professor of Worship and Liturgical Theology, at Candler School of Theology of Emory University. Dr. Phillips has interests in the practical and pastoral aspects of the historical church how the church conducted worship, initiated Christians, and organized ministries as a way to understand the development of Christian theology and practice for the present. He is editor-in-chief of the journal Liturgy. From 2001-2004, he served as chair of the Holy Communion Study Committee for the General Conference of The United Methodist Church. In his role as chair, Phillips traveled extensively, meeting with Methodists throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa. In 2009, Dr. Phillips was invited to participate in the Roman Catholic-United Methodist dialogue on the Eucharist, sponsored by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and The United Methodist Church. He is currently working on a book on the development of contemp

Khalia J. Williams is the Assistant Dean of Worship and Music, and Assistant Professor in the Practice of Worship at Emory University's Candler School of Theology. An ordained minister, she serves as an associate minister and First Lady at the historic Providence Missionary Baptist church in Atlanta. With a deep passion for the intersection of worship, womanist theology and embodiment, she is a lead consultant for multiple denominations in the area of liturgical transformation.

James F. White holds the Bard Thompson Chair of Liturgical Studies at Drew University. He previously taught at the Perkins School of Theology for twenty-two years and was professor of liturgy at the University of Notre Dame until 1999. He has served as president of the North American Academy of Liturgy and received its Berakah Award. He also chaired the editorial committee of the Section on Worship of the Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church. Dr. White holds an A.B. from Harvard, a B.D. from Union Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. from Duke University.
