Editorial Reviews

News reports after the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center alerted Mahmood to the abysmal lack of knowledge about Islam among Americans, and in 1999 he began compiling his collection of biographical sketches. The 2001 attack inspired him to accelerate his efforts. He leaves out The Prophet and the first four caliphs, because information on them is widely available, and selects only those people who have made significant and lasting impact on Islam. His goal is to inform Muslim children and other Americans about dimensions of the religion and culture that do not appear in the news media. Annotation c.
