It's Not Unusual... But It Sure Is Ugly!

Overview

This five-song disc features a cover of the quasi-title cut that Tom Jones made most famous. Of course, the D.O.A. version of "It's Not Unusual" has an entirely different tone than that of the perpetually panty-showered Vegas crooner. Vocalist Joey Keithley revels in the schmaltzy track, extending notes with a throat-splitting caterwaul and enough rasp to make even the most hardened punk fan cringe. The rest of the songs play like the castoffs and filler tunes they surely are. Coming at the end of a 36-month period in which D.O.A. released three full-length recordings, it's hard to think that the band had enough good original tunes (or covers for that matter) to fill out even this collection's pint-sized track listing. Probably not much more than a vinyl novelty item for obsessive collectors of punk plastic, It's Not Unusual is in no way a necessary edition for the average hardcore fan. ~ Vincent Jeffries
